What was the reaction from Apple?
Apple has announced a recall for “a limited number of older generation” 15-inch MacBook Pro models due to a possible fire risk.
How do you know if your MacBook is part of the recall program or no?
The first step what you have to do is very simple. You should look at the function row at the top of the keyboard. The affected model of MacBook Pro was the last 15-inch Apple notebook that did not feature a Touch Bar, so if you have only standard keys, you max have a model what is part of the recall program.
If you check Apple menu in the top left part, and select “About This Mac” and you see this:
“MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015),”
then your device may be part of the recall.
In the same About this Mac menu, you’ll need to copy the serial number and enter it into the Eligibility field on Apple’s support page.
Here it is very simple, just paste the serial number and press “Submit”.
If your MacBook is eligible for repair, you have to do the following steps:
- The most important: Apple advises to immediately stop using our MacBook. It is your own safety!
- You have to find an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Retail Store, or simply contact Apple Support to organize the process for the mail-in service with the Apple Repair Center.
- As always make sure your data is safe and you have a backup.
How will Apple repair it, what is the process?
During the repair Apple makes a battery replacement for free. For this service you have nothing to pay. None of the other parts of the machine will be affected or replaced, and this is why this program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Apple estimates the battery replacement process may take 1-2 weeks.
We do hope this article help you for better understanding this problem.
