Told the board is dead?
That is often where our work starts.
Most repair shops work at part level. If the motherboard is faulty, the answer is a new board, and on many laptops that costs more than the machine is worth. So the machine gets written off.
We work at chip level. That means we diagnose the board itself, find the component that failed, and replace that component. A single burnt chip or a cracked solder joint does not have to mean a new motherboard.
What we do at board level
- Micro soldering. Component-level work under a microscope, on the board itself.
- BGA rework. Reflow and replacement of chips that sit on ball grid arrays.
- Liquid damage. Cleaning, corrosion removal and repair of the tracks and components the liquid took out.
- No power, no display, no charge. Tracing the power rails and the charging circuit to the component that fails.
- Short circuits and burnt components. Locating the short and replacing what caused it.
- Connector and port repair. Power jacks, USB and display connectors that have torn away from the board.
We do this on laptops and desktop computers of every brand, including machines that are out of warranty or no longer supported by the manufacturer. On MacBook and iMac logic boards the same work is done by our Apple-certified technician.
What it costs
Board-level faults cannot be priced from a description, because the same symptom can have very different causes. So we start with the diagnosis.
- The check is free. We open the machine, measure the board and tell you what actually failed.
- The quote is free too. If the repair comes to more than €40 including VAT, we call you with the price before we start, and you decide whether to go ahead.
- No fix, no fee. If we cannot repair it, or you turn the quote down, there is nothing to pay.
One exception. Ultrasonic cleaning of a liquid-damaged board uses expensive cleaning materials, so it has a fixed price of €50 including VAT. That fee is payable even if the board cannot be brought back to life.
Guarantee on the work
Our repair guarantee is 30 days on the parts we replace and 60 days on the repair work. A repair is a service, not the sale of a new product, so the longer product guarantee does not apply to it. We are an independent repair shop, not an authorised service centre for any manufacturer.
If you are in a hurry
Express handling is an extra €50 including VAT. It puts your machine at the front of the queue ahead of the jobs already booked in. It is a place in the order of work, not a promise that the repair will be finished by a set time, because board-level work sometimes needs a part that has to be ordered.
